Wingback Chairs in the Style of George Nelson, Adelaide c.1950
Price per chair.
Wingback chairs in the mid-century European style with similar stylistic flourishes to work by Paolo Buffa (Italy). Produced in Adelaide around 1950 and salvaged from a public bar, this is all we know about their origins. They were clearly conceived and produced by a skilled maker with an eye for contemporary trends.
Frame and legs are in Tasmanian Oak, with marks and wear showing through a rich satin Danish Oil finish, contrasting beautifully with the velvet. We preserved these marks as testament to many years of use and enjoyment. The pair have been expertly resprung, restuffed and reupholstered. The blue-grey velvet with buttons, piping and studs exactly replicates the original upholstery.
These sumptuous chairs deserve pride of place in the living room. They're begging for a library or fireside situation, perfect for stretching out your legs and reading. Equally, their wide, accommodating arms, broad seats and low profile invite intimate conversation, tumbler in hand, as was no doubt intended.
