Whoa! In the middle of selling these, we tested the timber for an export permission and found that this is Jarrah, not Rosewood. We discovered that CATT Furniture, Western Australia, produced an exact copy of the Vico Magistretti Carimate chair in 1967, three years after Cassina started producing it. When I say exact copy, I mean to the millimeter.

So, this set of 6 ‘Carimate’ dining chairs were designed by Vico Magistretti and produced, as far as we know, without licence by CATT Furniture 1967.

These are beautifully compact chairs with a bold, chunky design. They have visual impact without taking up a lot of room. They’re structurally very strong and superbly comfortable.

Jarrah is a sustainable timber but looks very much like Rosewood. Rosewood species have long been protected by CITES registration as an endangered species around the world. This makes these chairs a sustainable choice, and much more economical than original Carimate chairs.

DIMENSIONS:

Height 76 cm

Width 51 cm

Depth 48 cm

Seat ↑ 45cm

CONDITION:

Excellent restored condition. Old worn finish has been removed and frames recoated, no sanding, timber retains signs of age and use. Some joints reglued to ensure all chairs are sturdy, strong and stable. Natural flaws in timber and some old repairs are visible but subtle. See final image for an example - this is natural ‘checking’ (short cracks) in the timber and include old filling and colouring.
