Large Murano Sofiato Amethyst Optic Fluted Glass Urn Vase Italy 1950s
A large Murano urn vase with fluted optic Amethyst glass body and clear glass stemmed base. In the style of Vittorio Zecchin and his sofiato vases but this is unlikely his work. It was made as a robust vessel for everyday use.
This is a great item for it's classical shape and scale. It displays beautifully on it's own but is truly magnificent holding a loose arrangement of foliage and/or flowers.
The floral display pictured here (a dozen stalks of rhubarb), stretches to 1.2 metres/1.4 yards across and is perfectly stable due to the wide base and low centre of gravity of this vase when filled with water.
An excellent floral display vase. Equally lovely in style and proportions on it's own.
