Six Vintage Hand-Turned Australian She-Oak Timber Dinner Plates, Adelaide, 1960s
Price for the set.
This beautiful set consists of six hand-turned Australian She-oak timber medium sized dinner plates. The quality of she-oak or Casuarina timber makes it an attractive material for woodturning, with it's deep golden to umber tones and beautiful, distinctive oak-like grain. The she-oak is a widespread species native to Australia. Casuarinas are commonly called She-oaks because of the similarity of their timber to that of European oaks.
This lovely set was hand-turned by a professional turner in the 1960s as a wedding present for a young couple in Adelaide, South Australia. Their daughter remembers these plates were barely ever used. They are in excellent condition with a few slight marks and scuffs. One plate has a very slight crack that has been repaired and resealed and is hard to find. See images for illustration. Overall the plates are in wonderful condition.
They have been newly waxed with a food safe mixture of Mineral Oil and Beeswax. Casuarina timber does not attract any cites controls and can be posted overseas without delay.
