Lindner Leuchten Bauhaus Modernist Spherical Ceiling or Wall Light, Germany 1950s
Lindner Leuchten Bauhaus Modernist Spherical Ceiling or Wall Light, Germany 1950s
An original Lindner Leuchten Bauhaus ceiling or wall light. New old stock. Unused.
This simple, elegant ceiling light or wall sconce shows the strong influence of the Bauhaus school on industrial design in Germany in the late 40s/early 1950s - high quality, high functionality and simple, pared-back design.
This light was produced by Lindner Leuchten, Bamberg, Germany. It is not one of the Wilhelm Wagenfeld designs but dates just prior to his work for the company. It was manufactured by Peill and Putzler.
Porcelain fixture and fittings with milk glass shade and threaded porcelain and glass closure (screws together in a clockwise direction). All in excellent unused condition - this light has never been installed. Images show my temporary wiring for photography purposes only.
The light was found in a mixed set of Wagenfeld Bauhaus lighting fixtures stored by a retired electrician in his garage, wrapped in newspaper dated to the mid 1950s. According to his son, the electrician had worked on major factory fit-outs in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne in the 1950s. All the lights were in pristine, unused condition. It appears they were excess from an installation job.
This lamp is numbered model #3063 LSJ.
